EDO PERIOD (CIRCA 1675), SIGNED OMI DAIJO FUJIWARA TADAHIRO
Configuration (sugata): with longitudinal ridge line (shinogi-zukuri), shallow peaked back (iori-mune) and medium point (chu-kissaki); length (nagasa): 1 shaku, 8 sun, 1.5 bu (55cm.); curvature (sori): koshi-zori of 1.3cm.; increase in width of blade (fumbari): 0.9cm.; carving (horimono): maru-dome bo-hi on either side.
Forging pattern (jihada): fine pear skin (nashiji).
Tempering pattern (hamon): irregular pattern mixed with clove outlines (choji midare) and with fist-shaped choji (kobushigata choji), all executed in bright nie.
Point (boshi): medium rounded (chu-maru) with medium kaeri.
Tang (nakago). Shape (keitai): wide, slightly narrowing, ubu and with a moist, even, brown patina; file marks (yasurime): slightly reversed slanted (katte-sagari); end (nakagojiri): rounded (kuri-jiri); holes (mekugi-ana): two; signature (katana-mei): Omi Daijo Fujiwara Tadahiro.
