A SHINSHINTO KII WAKIZASHI
EDO PERIOD (CIRCA 1805), SIGNED KISHU TO YOSHIKAWA MINAMOTO TOSHIYUKI
Configuration (sugata): with longitudinal ridge line (shinogi-zukuri), shallow peaked back (iori-mune) and medium point (chu-kissaki); length (nagasa): 1 shaku, 6 sun, 3 bu (49.6cm.); curvature (sori): torii-zori of 1.1cm.; increase in width of blade (fumbari): 1.1cm.
Forging pattern (jihada): fine-grained wood and burl (itame mokume).
Tempering pattern (hamon): with yaki-dashi, the hamon is a mixture of rolling waves (toran) with strong large clove patterns (o-choji) in excellent nie, becoming clustered (juka-choji) and with multiple 'legs' (ashi) as it enters the monouchi.
Point (boshi): medium rounded (chu-maru).
Tang (nakago). Shape (keitai): wide, stubby, ubu and with an even, dry, brown patina; file marks (yasurime): kesho-yasuri; end (nakagojiri): strong ha-agari kuri-jiri; holes (mekugi-ana): two (one much later and quite small); signature (katanamei): Kishu To (locality of) Yoshikawa Minamoto Toshiyuki.

A wakizashi-koshirae comprising: a red/brown saya imitating wood, decorated with a snake crawling through holes in the bark and fitted with an iron kojiri decorated with gold and silver nunome clouds; the tsuka is fitted with iron menuki in the form of wooden planks on which rest a skull and bones and a pair of iron fuchi kashira decorated with a skull and bones, unsigned; the iron Tetsugendo school tsuba, depicting Chokaro, indistinctly signed Kabi and kao--length of koshirae 69.7cm.; length of tsuka 15.8cm.; diameter of tsuba 7.0cm.

Accompanied by a koshu tokubetsu kicho token certificate, no. 13434, Showa 52 (1977), issued by the N.B.T.H.K.
