A GEORGE IV SILVER BARREL-FORM URN
LONDON, 1823, MAKER'S MARK OF JOHN BRIDGE

Formed as a bowed barrel applied with hoops, the spreading circular foot raised on a square pedestal supported by four reeded ball feet, applied on each side with a ring handle issuing from a lion mask, the faceted spigot with ivory finial, the bayonet-fitted cover surmounted by a reeded ball finial, the body engraved with Royal Ducal armorials, the cover engraved with the Royal Badge, Garter motto and Ducal coronet, the interior fitted with a removable pig container, marked under base, on cover and spigot--15in. (38cm.) long

The Royal arms bear a three pointed label charged with two anchors and a cross as borne by William Henry, Duke of Clarence, 3rd son of George III and Queen Charlotte, born in 1765.
