Compare the cup of similar design from the collection of John Tradescant the Elder, which was presented by Elias Ashmole to Oxford University in 1683, and is illustrated by Soame Jenyns, Chinese Art III, 1982, no. 138, where it is noted that John Tradescant died in 1632, thereby dating the cup to at least the Tianqi or Chongzhen period
