The thinly potted, globular body impressed with an allover mesh pattern ending in a line above the countersunk base and just short of the thin, upright mouth rim, the curved strap handle rising above the shoulder at one side applied at the tip with a bird peering down at the miniature animal applied on the shoulder opposite above a small projecting tab suspending a loose gray pottery ring--9 in. Very thinly potted jars of this type with impressed fabric patterns have been found in Warring States burials in Zhejiang Province, as at Lizhu and in the area of Shanghai. A nearly globular impressed jar with a curved handle on one side was found at Qijiadun, Jinshanxian, Shanghai municipality. See Kaogu 1973, no. 1, pl. IV:1.
