A RARE GROUP OF THREE PAINTED GRAY POTTERY FIGURES OF ENTERTAINERS

Each figure modeled with high cheekbones, long nose and small open mouth picked out in red pigment, below coal-black hair gathered in a simple topknot, one seated and dressed in a close-fitting tunic with wide sleeves, shown in a frontal position with his wrists balanced on his knife-cut bent legs, the second standing with hands clasped together and staring straight ahead, dressed in a long robe, the hem forming the edge of the base, the third modeled as if in motion, wearing a short jacket over knife-cut trousers, each dressed in a creamy white slip with details picked out in grayish, pale pink and red pigments, some repairs--the tallest 9 1/2 in. These figures are similar in their facial features and costume to a group of bronze human-form supports dated to the early Warring States period excavated in 1972 at Fenshuiling, Changzhi, Shanxi province, now in the Shanxi Provincial Museum.
