AN UNUSUAL GREEN-GLAZED RED POTTERY OIL LAMP

Formed as a shallow circular basin raised on a tall spreading hollow foot molded with geometric designs, a tall cylindrical staff molded with a peacock issuing from the center, the bird with long curved neck, outstretched wings and molded tail feathers, with prominent comb and clutching a ball in its beak, the back of the bird supporting a small circular dish-form receptacle, the flat everted rim of the basin with four evenly spaced apertures for the insertion of four separately constructed mythical animals applied with further receptacles on their backs, covered in an iridescent green glaze, restored--24 in.
