One standing with right foot raised, one holding a jar, one kneeling with right hand extended forward, the fourth kneeling and holding a winnowing basket, all dressed in variations of a red jacket and red and white striped skirt, the hair dressed in a topknot and the back of the heads flattened--4 3/4 to 6 1/2 in. Three female figures of this type in the collection of Ezekiel Schloss were illustrated by Schloss in Ancient Chinese Sculpture, vol. II, 1977, pl. 33 (top), and were also included in the exhibition, Art of the Six Dynasties, China Institute, 1975-1976, Catalogue no. 20

The result of Oxford thermoluminescence test no. 666a61 is consistent with the dating of this lot
