The glaze probably imitates coral or lacquer. For other examples see Bob C. Stevens, The Collector's Book of Snuff Bottles, 1976, col. pl. 284; Lila S. Perry, Chinese Snuff Bottles, Tokyo, 1960, col. pl. 62-63; Robert W.L. Kleiner, Chinese Snuff bottles from the Collection of Mary and George Bloch, Hong Kong, 1987, col. pl. 223
