Lot Essay

This model of snuff bottle is well known, though with varying degrees of success in the molding. The crisp molding of this example suggests an early date. The glaze probably imitates coral or lacquer. For other examples see Bob C. Stevens, The Collector's Book of Snuff Bottles, 1976, col. pl. 284; Lila S. Perry, Chinese Snuff Bottles, Tokyo, 1960, col. pl. 62-63; Robert W.L. Kleiner, Chinese Snuff bottles from the Collection of Mary and George Bloch, Hong Kong, 1987, col. pl. 223
