A PAIR OF ROMAN MARBLE FUNERARY RELIEFS
EARLY IMPERIAL, CIRCA LATE 1ST CENTURY B.C.--1ST CENTURY A.D.
The busts are enclosed within aediculae, a rosette in each pediment, with the man, shown frontally, wearing the pallium or a toga, with his right hand laid over his left breast, the folds of the garment simply rendered, his expression severe, his hair a series of short, curved locks, the ears prominent, and the woman, displaying an equally serious expression, wearing her hair knotted in front, in a manner popularized by the Empress Livia, and with her mantle pulled over her head --each 21 1/2 in.
