In the form of opposing ibex, reclining with the feet folded under their bodies, of stamped and cut sheet gold, with separately soldered suspension loops on each in back.

Lot Essay

The so-called Ziwiye treasure, now dispersed, was discovered in 1947 in a remote village near Lake Urmia, in Northern Kurdistan. The gold objects are of mixed style combining elements from Scythian, Urartian, and Assyrian art.
