The Lives of Dr. John Donne [etc.]...To which is now first added, Love and Truth...With Notes, and the Life of the Author, by Thomas Zouch...Third Edition, York, 1817, vol. 1 only, slightly later brown polished calf, "Matthew Arnold" stamped in gilt on rear cover, "Honoris Causa" stamped in gilt on front, dotted gilt borders, gilt spine, sprinkled edges, spines labels worn away, other wear, engraved portraist, MATTHEW ARNOLD'S COPY, a prize book given to him while he was at school (Winchester? Rugby?), with his bookplate and pencilled markings by him on two pages. Laid in is a printed school inspection form, filled out by hand, for a school at "Buckingham Gate, James St.," for the year ending 31 October 1882, with Arnold listed as the Inspector; together 4 vols., 8vo, cloth slipcases.
