Newell a Lieutenant in the Navy -- And four others, identical to the above, signed by Andrew Johnson, 12 March 1868; another with stamped Johnson signature, 20 December 1866; one signed by Benjamin Harrison, 20 December 1889; one signed by Rutherford B. Hayes, 9 February 1880, each appointing John S. Newell to various ranks in the Navy. All five in unusually fine, fresh condition. (5)
