AN IMPORTANT PAINTED STEEL ARMCHAIR
DESIGNED BY FRANK LLOYD WRIGHT FOR THE
LARKIN COMPANY BUILDING, BUFFALO, NEW YORK,
CIRCA 1904
The rectangular back with mirror image piercings arranged to form squares supported on a central shaft above continuous arms terminating in a leather upholstered seat resting on a swivel pedestal base of four diagonally opposed supports turned outward with indented rectangular design and raised on castors--38in. (96.52cm.) high
A majority of the chairs in the building were those attached by a cantilevered swivel arm to the worker's desks. The present example was one of a few shown in period photos at the desks of officers of the company such as the Larkins and Darwin Martin, as well as in the Director's meeting room
