Lot Essay

This painting was first reproduced in a story by Inez Haynes Gillmore in Ladies Home Journal, September 1916. It was later illustrated in her novel The Happy Years, the third installment of the Phoebe and Ernest series. The earlier story became Chapter VII in the book.
