Sicily, Gela (c. 440 BC), Silver Tetradrachm, 16.80 gms., die axis 315°, biga walking right, Ionic column behind, ear of corn in exergue, rev. forepart of the man-headed bull Gelas, swimming to the right, /K[GE]LA[S]/k around (Jenkins 210 (obv. 55/rev. 110), this coin; SNG ANS 46, same dies; cf SNG Lloyd 960), very fine/extremely fine and very rare, the obverse weak in places but struck on a broad planchet and with a lovely medium gray tone, the reverse a superb characterisation of Gelas, illustrated on the catalogue cover
