This mid-5th Century coinage from Selinus is both innovative and complex. Its obverse adapts the standard Sicilian quadriga to show the patron deities of Selinus' parent city Megara in a sacred chariot. They are travelling toward Sicily to protect the colonists of Selinus. On the crowded reverse, the river-god Selinus sacrifices to secure the well-being of the city.
