Delos, a tiny island at the center of the Cyclades, was the legendary birthplace of Apollo. Each year a festival of music and athletic events, held in his honor, attracted visitors from throughout the Aegean. Later, Delos became a major banking and trading center - ruins of an extensive metropolis still cover large parts of the island.
