Set of two hanging scrolls, ink and color on paper, each scroll measures 12¾ x 9½in. (32.5 x 24cm.)
a. Literati Gathering of Shitao and Friends in Zhuxi (Yangzhou)
Inscribed by the artist: "On a summer day, I joined Wang Jueshi and Wu Tuizhai, Huang Yansi in carrying wine to Zhuxi. All of us said that we should not fail to compose poems and draw a painting. So, I executed this painting and wrote a poem:
Old Zhuxi shaking, declines into wind and dust,
The wasted pavilions and ruined gardens do not suprise me.
My writing breaks free from human inconstancy,

b. Shaobo
Entitled and inscribed with a poem:
"People live in a new town beneath the water,
The water of the lake reaches the sky and floods without a shore.
The achievements of the diligent magistrate are still praised by the people. Do not be suprised that my painting of the gantang tree (birchleaf pear) may not be true.
As my boat passed Shaobo after an autumn flood,
I visited Magistrate Yuebo and painted this in his boat"
