Two colophons by Zhang Daqian (1899-1983), both dated 1961 and with six seals. The colophons were written in Paris for Jean-Pierre Dubosc. The first colophon states that the album was excuted by Shitao during middle age, and Zhang Daqian acquired it from Mr. Edo in Kyoto around 1931. He brought it back to Beijing and had it remounted. During World War II, Zhang carried the album to Sichuan. After the war, Zhang Daqian's trip to Dunhuang placed him heavily in debt, forcing him to sell all the good paintings in his collection. After being introduced by Xie Zhiliu, he sold this album to N. P. Wang. In 1960 Zhang visited Switzerland and met his old friend Jean-Pierre Dubosc. While Dubosc showed him paintings from his collection, Zhang was surprised to find this album there. The next year while in Paris for the exhibition of his Lotus Screens, he again examined the album and wrote the colophon.
Zhang Daqian wrote the second colophon on the following day and noted that the album was in very good condition.
