A DOMARU TYPE ARMOR WITH ELABORATE HELMET
EDO PERIOD (18TH CENTURY)
The three plate iron bowl surmounted by an elaborate representation of Chinese magistrate's cap, the front moulded with wrinkles and the top pierced with a floral design, the whole covered in black lacquer; the mabizashi and fukigaeshi similarly lacquered, with metal crescent form maedate and black lacquered wakidate formed to represent the stiffened silk ribbons worn by magistrate's on their hats, the five stage shikoro laced with white thread; the lacquered iron mempo formed as a grimacing face, the four stage shikoro similarly laced; the domaru type do with odoshi and sugake odoshi lacing in white thread, the watagami laced in deerskin, the kusazuri of five stages; the kosode similarly laced and the kote, haidate and suneate all en suite; in wood storage box with a leather cover.
