MEIJI PERIOD (19TH CENTURY)

The shallow tray on a short foot of lozenge shape with slightly recessed well bordered by a nashiji band covered by dense gold leaf scroll in hiramaki-e and set with large chrysanthemum florets in two colors of gold, the well kinji decorated in gold, black, red and silver takamaki-e with No masks resting on variously patterned brocade cloths, the underside of the tray bright nashiji- 11 1/8 in. (28.3 cm.) long
