Of rectangular shape with canted corners lacquered on the lid in iro-e togidashi with a monkey and young after a painting by Sosen, inscribed in gold lacquer and sealed in red lacquer with his name above the monkeys on the roiro-nuri ground, the interiors of the writing box also roiro sprinked with gold hirame and nashiji, fitted with an inkstone and metal mizuire, signed on the underside of lid- 9 x 8 1/4 x 1 3/4 in. (22.9 x 21 x 4.4 cm.), small chips, corner cracks, some surface nicks
