The square inro carved in low relief and accented in gold lacquer on each side with a scene of a scholar overlooking a river, the waves inlaid in aogai, or Chinese pavilions by a river, with further aogai waves, within a carved, raised shield-shaped borderline, the four sides of the inro carved with large peony blossoms and the ground separating them lacquered red, the interior cases nashiji, fitted with a bead form ojime- 2 7/8 in. (7.3 cm.) high
