A PAIR OF PARCEL GILT BRONZE FIGURAL CANDELABRA
MEIJI PERIOD (LATE 19TH CENTURY), SIGNED MIYAO ZO

Each cast in the form of a samurai standing in full armour holding aloft an inverted bell into which fits the detachable four-light candelabrum, each figure additionally holding a removable pole blade, the robes of each figure cast in low relief with a phoenix or a dragon on the back and with numerous sprays of paulownia and other plants on grounds of clouds or waves, details of the robes and armour gilt and the bronze colored a brownish black, the faces of the figures finished to a rich brown repeated on the hands and on the parcel gilt bells holding the candelabra, gold lacquered wood stands- 24 3/4 in. (63.1 cm.) total height excluding stand
