A MASSIVE EARTHENWARE VASE
EDO PERIOD (18TH/19TH CENTURY), BEARING DATE ON THE UNDERSIDE TEMMEI 5 (1785) AND SIGNED TANSAI SEI ZO AND WITH SHIMAZUMON
Of very high shouldered ovoid form with short neck and wide, flared rim with recessed base, decorated in thick enamels of blue and red with branches of flowering plum growing from a thick, central branch, the centers of the blossoms highlit with gilt- 24 5/8 in. (62.5 cm.) high
