Born in Ichi Prefecture, Nakane Hiroshi went to Tokyo as a young man to study at the Tokyo School of Fine Arts in the Western-style painting division, where, in later years he became a professor. Influenced in his early development by his teacher Yasui Sotaro (1888-1955), Nakane's mature style has become more pointillist in manner and more vivid in color.
