The stylized abstract design is painted beneath a clear glaze and perfectly mirrors the circular shape of the plate. Ishizara (literally "stone plate") were a standard utilitarian product of the Seto kilns in Aichi prefecture in the late Edo period. They are sturdy with thick walls, shallow bowls and everted rims.
