Lot Essay

The classically inspired marquetry and overall design of this commode relate it to the work of the celebrted Milanese intarsiatore Giuseppe Maggiolini. For a further discussion of Maggiolini's work, see footnote to lot 157, a commode with identical classical figural panels.
