The schooner Yale was built at Belfast, Maine, in 1884. The port was New Haven, Conneticut, and her last master was Josiah Nickerson.

Reginald E. Nickerson, American was born in 1915. He is a descendant of William Nickerson, who founded Chatham on Cape Cod in 1630. As a young man he studied art ath the Boston Museum of Art and later with Percy Leason, the Austrailian marine artist in London.
