THE ED "ARCHIE" GARDNER APRON FROM DUFFY'S TAVERN
Mr. Gardner hosted the popular radio program "Duffy's Tavern" that aired on NBC Radio from the late 1930's through 1940. One of the top ten radio shows at the time, Mr. Gardner wore the apron during the show to further the appearance of a tavern where the theme was "Where the Elite Meet to Eat." Guests on the show would autograph the apron, and Mr. Gardners' mother would then painstakingly embroider over the names to preserve them. The white muslin apron which measures 35½ x 43 inches, has over 200 signatures including Humphrey Bogart, Boris Karloff, Lauren Bacall, Al Jolson, Tallulah Bankhead, Groucho Marx, Lou Costello, The Lone Ranger, Lucille Ball, Desi Arnaz, Harry Truman, Mell Ott, Cary Grant, Claudette Colbert, Bob Hope, Esther Williams, Shirley Booth, George Raft, Paulette Goddard, William Bendix, Ethel Merman, Kate Smith, Orson Welles, Anne Baxter, Amos n' Andy, Fred Astaire, Esther Williams, Bing Crosby, Harry James, Benny Goodman, James Cagney and Susan Hayward.
