A LOUIS XV STYLE ORMOLU-MOUNTED CHINOISERIE-DECORATED BLACK LACQUER COMMODE
LATE 19TH CENTURY, BY MILLET

With a serpentine moulded cream and ochre marble top above a conforming bombé case fitted with two drawers and applied with finely chased foliate scrolling mounts, and decorated with Oriental court scenes, on splayed tapering legs with foliate scrolling sabots, stamped 'MILLET'--36½in. (92.7cm.) high, 64in. (162.5cm.) wide, 24¼in. (60.9cm.) deep

Lot Essay

Millet, T., is recorded as having worked in Paris in 1853, at 11 Rue Jacques Coeur. He was known for his 18th Century reproduction of furniture and was awarded a gold medal in the 1889 Paris Exhibition Universelles (see Denise Ledoux-Lebard, Les Ébéniste du XIX Si©ecle, 1984, pp. 484-486).
