Lot Essay

The present lot is a partial replica of a larger double portrait of Maximilian with his Lord in waiting, Graf Seeau (192 x 149cm.), signed and dated 1750, in the Residenz Museum, Munich. In the larger portrait, Seeau is seen standing behind Maximilian, who is portrayed in three-quarter length (Hernmarck, loc. cit., pl. XXIV)
