Lot Essay

According to a 1982 unpublished interview with Nicholas Burliuk, the artist's son, when the Burliuk family lived on the Lower East Side, they visited Inwood Park, near the Columbia Rowing Club. The scene combines imagery of a weathered tree in the park with a visionary image of a house with a cupola--a memory of the former estate of the artist's wife.

Executed between 1929-1930
