On the reverse there is an inscription that reads "Madonna by Samuel B. Morse 1791-1872/Am Romantic Classic circa 1832-35, The Holy Family in Am Scenic background/unique and excellent for the mind who was later to be the inventor of the telegraph/Found by TT 1957 Newxxxx".
