Lot Essay

See Joan Jones, Minton, The First Two Hundred Years of Design & Production, Shrewsbury, 1993, pp. 197, 339 for a Minton vase decorated with a variant of this scene, designed as a pendant to 'Cobwebs', circa 1895. Although Solon retired as artist director of the Minton factory in 1904, he continued to decorate Minton blanks until his death in 1913.
