With a molded eared rectangular taupe marble top above two drawers mounted with vitruvian scrolls, centering a drawer mounted with a lion's-mask suspending a ribbon-tied classical medallion mounted on two doors issuing foliate scrolls within an arched panel, enclosing six drawers between fluted engaged colonettes headed by applied leaf-tips and mounted chandelles, the sides with similar mounts centering ormolu plaques depicting putti at work, above a foliate-swag mounted apron on turned tapering legs with egg-and-dart capitals and lotus-and- pomegranate caps--37¼in. (93.9cm.) high, 70½in. (179cm.) wide, 25¾in. (66cm.) deep

Lot Essay

The offered lot is a reproduction of the commode made by Joseph Stockel for the Comte de Provence, which was then altered twice by Guillaume Beneman for Marie Antoinette at Fountainebleau.
