The ability to design intricate locking systems was a superior talent of Clement Linke, the brother of Françoise Linke, who followed lock-making traditions handed down by German craftsmen in Paris since the 17th Century. He frequently crafted the locks for the furniture created by F. Linke, and for such works as the 'Grand Bureau', which was exhibited in the Paris Exposition universelle of 1890.
