Lot Essay

In 1926 Germaine Krull was invited, at Robert Delauney's request, to exhibit in Paris' autumn salon, selections of photographs from her series of documentary abstractions of heavy machinery and architectural structures known as Métal. This influential sequence of pictures was published as a book in 1927. While the image offered here was not one of the plates reproduced in Métal, it certainly was a work taken from the same series.
