Lot Essay

L. Fritz Gruber, a schoolmate and friend of Gunther Sander, was the founding director of the annual photographica show, Photokina. In the first installation of Photokina in 1951, Prof. Gruber invited August Sander to participate in the first international photography exhibition of the post-World War II. His collection is now housed in the Museum Ludwig, Cologne.
