Lot Essay

Written in 1825 but not published until 1831 due to difficulties with the censor, this is one of the first attempts at romantic tragedy in the Russian language. Smirnov-sokol'skii 25 states that this is the rarest of Pushkin's first editions. Kilgour 889.
