Lot Essay

This print had been exhibited at Lunn Gallery, Washington, D.C. in the fall of 1980. At the time of the exhibition opening Viva, the painter, model, author and actress often associated with Andy Warhol's Factory in the early 1960s visited. Convinced that that Louis Faurer, the former darkroom mate and colleague of Robert Frank had been done an injustice, she crossed out Frank's signature, wrote in Faurer's name as credit and added the colorful annotation in the margin, recto. She later recanted her exclamation, admitting that she had been mistaken about the author of the photograph.
