TWO BY ROOKWOOD, CIRCA 1885, THE OTHER BY FULPER
Comprising a ceramic vase decorated by Artus Van Briggle, oviform with cylindrical neck and scalloped rim, in a high standard glaze, painted with a spray of blossoms and berries in shades of tan with some goldstone effect, impressed with firm's mark and 441 S and inscribed with artist's monogram--11¼ in. (28.5 cm.) high, chip to rim; a shaped circular dish decorated in the Limoges style with a single butterfly in flight against palm fronds and billowing clouds, on a reddish brown ground, impressed ROOKWOOD 1884 and 120--5½in. (14cm.) diam.; and a Fulper bowl of low form with inverted rim, the exterior in a periwinkle blue glaze streaked with green, the interior in streaked brown and beige glazes, with firm's printed mark--12 in. (30.2 cm.) diam. (3)
