Lot Essay

The thick, rounded reeding and multiple vase and ring turnings of the legs on this table relate to furniture made in Balitimore after the War of 1812. The conical shape of the feet are also seen on various furniture forms from this cabinetmaking center (see Weidman, Classical Maryland (Maryland Historical Society, 1993), figs. 109, 115, 152; Furniture in Maryland (Maryland Historical Society, 1984), figs. 152-153.
