Lot Essay

Beaumont Newhall considered this image important enough to include in the first exhibition of fine art photographs at the Museum of Modern Art. It was also chosen by Julien Levy for the exhibition Murals by American Painters and Photographers in 1932. This print was purchased by the current owner at a benefit peace auction held in Danbury, Ct in the early 1940s, a benefit attended by Steichen.
