OVID. La Métamorphose d'Ovid figurée. Lyons: Jean de Tournes 1557. 8vo, 160 x 113 mm. (6 5/16 x 4 7/16 in.), blue crushed levant morocco, covers with large gilt arabesque in the style of the woodcut borders, spine with small gilt floral tools, board edges and turn-ins gilt, edges marbled and gilt, by TRAUTZ-BAUZONNET, the slightest trace of wear to corners, lacking final blank M4 (some copies have the printer's device on verso), washed and pressed, browned. FIRST EDITION of this anonymous French verse adaptation, italic type (attributed to Robert Granjon), captions in roman, 178 woodcuts, attributed to Bernard Salomon, of which 20 appeared previously in Marot's translation of Ovid (published as part of his Oeuvres, 1549), the remainder appearing here for the first time, a variety of ornamental and figurative woodcut borders.
