Born in Tokyo, Wakita is known for his oil paintings, watercolors, and lithographs. He has shown his work in the Venice Biennial, the Carnegie International Exhibition, and the Sao Paulo Biennial. In 1955 he won the Japanese award for painting in the Guggenheim International Exhibition and he received first prize in the Tokyo Mainichi International competition the same year.
