Lot Essay

Although described by Smith and in the McFadden sale catalogue as dated 1662 and in the Wetzlar sale catalogue as dated 16(6?)2, the present picture is clearly dated 1672, and is recorded as such in the catalogues of the sales in the Rooms in 1833 and 1896

Hofstede de Groot records a replica in the E.M. Engelberts and Jan Tersteeg sale, Amsterdam, June 13-14, 1808, lot 160 (218 florins to Nieuwenhuys)
