The present composition derives from a print of 1568 by I.H. Wierix after Pieter Brueghel the Elder. Two circular versions by Brueghel the Younger are recorded by G. Marlier, Pierre Brueghel le Jeune, 1969, p. 151, nos. 8a and b, and fig. 66. A painting of this subject is recorded in the posthumous inventory of Gillis van Coninxloo, who died January 9, 1607
