This previously unknown watercolor, executed circa 1877, was, according to Abigail Gerdts, the source for a large oil entitled Woman in Autumn Woods (Preston Morton Collection, Santa Barbara Museum of Art, Santa Barbara, California)

This watercolor will be included in the forthcoming Spanierman Gallery/CUNY/Goodrich/Whitney catalogue raissoné of the works of Winslow Homer that is being compiled by Abigail Booth Gerdts.
